P O R T R A I T N O . 1
An unknown little boy. For me, this young boy is a symbol of slavery. We don’t know his name, where or when he lived, or who his parents were, but we feel his despair, the weight of his hopelessness. While drawing him, I often thought, “Come on sweetie, let’s go home and give you a bath and supper. I’ll tuck you in bed, and tomorrow, we’ll start your life again.”
