Albert is the oldest of the Beloved children. He was born August 9, 1933 in Paris and was eight years old when he died. The Nazis considered all children under the age of nine to be “useless eaters” meaning they took in calories but contributed nothing to society. Albert was deported to Auschwitz on Convoy 23 from Drancy on August 24, 1942. Of the 1000 people on the transport, 908 were gassed immediately on arrival at Auschwitz. Of the remaining 92, five survived in 1945.
